Montecristo is the most famous and perhaps the most appreciated of all Habanos brands. Montecristo could be considered the benchmark by which all other Habanos are measured.

His name originates from the novel The Count of Monte Cristo.  of Alexandre Dumas. The tobacco reader read the novel to the Torcedores of the H. Upmann Factory in Havana, where the brand was founded in 1935. Such was the acceptance, that it was decided to give the name of the novel's protagonist to the new brand.

The historical range of Montecristo, initially composed only of the vitolas numbered from 1 to 5, was progressively completed to incorporate an offer that covers all the tastes of the most demanding smokers. In 2004 a new vitola was incorporated into the brand: Edmundo , which covers the trend of thick ring gauge formats and 2 years later this line is completed with the Petit Edmundo. The name Edmundo comes from Edmundo Dantés, protagonist of Dumas's novel.

In 2009, the Montecristo Open Line was born with 4 new vitolas, which incorporate a blend that is less strong than the rest of the Montecristo vitolas, designed to satisfy the new generations who enjoy the pleasure of open spaces.

Its exquisite blend of tobacco is made exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from Vuelta Abajo, land of the best tobacco in the world. Its two blends, the original with a medium to strong flavor and the medium strength of the Open Line, offer a distinguished aroma that continues to captivate both the most experienced smokers and those just starting out in the world of Habanos.
