The name of Romeo y Julieta, created as a Habanos brand in 1875, has its roots in the literary tragedy of the same name by the English writer William Shakespeare.

The brand achieved international renown in the early years of the 20th century, after Don Pepín  Rodríguez, was one of the first to recognize the importance of the rings as a factor of success.

It is estimated that up to 20,000 different rings were used in production.

​

Winston Churchill was one of the most devoted smokers of the Romeo and Juliet brand. Since his visit to Havana in 1946, his name was not only used on Habanos rings, but also gave its name to the best known of the  vitolas  Of the brand:  churchills  of Romeo and Juliet.

Already in the 21st century, 2 new vitolas are incorporated. In 2006 a new vitola arrived on the market:  Short Churchills, the robust that was missing from the brand's vitolario and, in 2010, at the XII Habano Festival, it was presented  Wide Churchills, a new format that inaugurates ring gauges 55 for the trend among lovers of thick ring gauge vitolas.

Its balanced and aromatic blend, with selected gut and binder leaves from the region of  turn to low  , makes Romeo y Julieta the classic Habano with a medium flavor.
